Wait

I was standing under the roof of a bus stop, keeping an eye on the door of the bus, waiting for it to be opened while my body was shaking under the cold and the rain. Every minute there felt longer and longer. Inside the bus, the driver was talking to another person who looked like his manager or colleague. Regardless of how much I tried to calm myself, I thought “yeah, waiting is not easy..”

So, why do I have to wait? Right, I could have booked an Uber to go home. Even though there were not many options, I still chose to wait. Not sure it was because I was stubborn or that I was indeed wanting to go by bus. In the end, we all choose something that gives us more peace, and more aligned with your higher self. Oh hey, do not take it serious, this is just waiting for a bus, no big consequence would be if I chose it wrong. Worst case, I just went home later than normal.

Is there any beauty about waiting? Absolutely, I believe waiting is how we expand our ability to endure, to measure how much we commit to something that is worthwhile. Waiting is also important in organizing and ordering things, imagine if no one wants to get in line, how we can live together under one sky. Waiting is also the way for us to come together, do something together, and be together, isn’t it already very beautiful? Waiting shows respect. Waiting is good.

Yet, why is it not so easy to wait? Well, because we simply have too many options now aday, in everything. Instead of getting in line, we can order foods in advance, online. Instead of getting in traffic, we can work from home. Instead of climbing a mountain, we can take cable car. Instead of going out to see someone, we can do a video call. Instead of going shopping, we can buy things on Amazon. Instead of going to a movie theater, we can watch Netflix. There is almost no need to wait anymore, in this modern world. Over time, we get used to not having to wait. And if we just have to wait for a bit, we start complaining.

Nevertheless, good things take time. The education, the relationships, the skills and expertise, the high quality work all require our time and effort. Garbage in, garbage out. The mindset of grabbing things and going would not work for the most important goals in our lives. Wait, for however long it might be, and enjoy the journey, so that waiting is meaningful. And, do not give up, we all just need to make one more step.
