Ladies go first

As I approached the park by my bike, there was a lady who was watching her kids from far away as they entered. The kid on a little scooter was coming closer, the other one was just running toward her.

I tried to slow down and even intended to stop for them to go by first. I am a decent adult who does not intend to block kids on their ways. The lady was staring at me, a bit terrified and then she looked forward to her kids. I thought my speed was actually scaring her as if there might be any accident.

I then stopped immediately and just enjoyed watching those kids having fun. The lady yelled loudly to her son while holding him back as he passed by her: “hey, hey, hey, don’t you see a lady was on her way, ladies go first okay okay, ladies go first, this is what you need to know”. The kid of course did not care much around, he got off the scooter and came to his mom.

I laughed, out loud, I thought it was cute and nice. I thought I should be the one who gives in to kids because they are kids and I tremendously admire the lady who was trying to teach her son an important lesson as he was at his early age, probably two or three years old.

A lot of time we tend to think “they are kids, let them be”, at least where I am from, people think like that. Nevertheless, personalities and mindset tend to be cultivated from our young age. Environment is only to sharpen, develop or lessen some of those later on in our lives. However we want our kids to be, we need to get them learn as soon as possible and do not assume that they cannot think to perceive since that age is when they imitate and we apparently do not want them to imitate bad things. If we do not talk about certain thing, they will learn that from other people, good and bad ones!
