Gifts

Holidays coming and then birthdays along the way, that’s when I am buzzed by what kind of gift I should be buying for my beloved. These are really really tough decisions because gifts are very personal. My thoughts were intertwining and fighting between what I think they may like and what they actually like. My tops of mind are always books and plants which are great and meaningful to me personally. However the challenge is whether other people are interested in these. I really want to show that I love them and I did put thoughts into expressing my love but I am just not sure whether they get it. What makes it harder is money. Whether the amount of money spent is worth it and how much you should be spending. No one wants money to be wasted. Some people tend to not help by saying “I don’t need gift” while the truth is “everyone likes gift, they just don’t acknowledge it, it’s more subconscious”. And then there is the myth that if someone is expecting a gift from you and you are just too simple in thinking, it can turn them off and go the other way around.

Worse, a gift that is supposed to make someone happy but does not meet their expectation may make the relationship turn awkward. One is blaming himself for not being thoughtful enough while the other is disappointed for not receiving what he wants. This is very common but nonsense. Why ruining everything just because of a gift. Maybe the simplest thing is the thing that works. Maybe you just need to be there with them in that special occasion. Maybe what they need is just your attention and presence. Maybe it does not involve any material thing at all. If not, handmade gifts can always do more good than harm. You put your effort into making and whether it turns out great or not, the worst case, people will laugh at it and everyone has fun, everyone is happy. No one should be blaming you for preparing for a gift if all your heart is there. Gift is extra and all it matters is your care and your authenticity.
